Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, engineering, and implementation of next-generation converting equipment.
- Dual role: Project Manager and Project Engineer, including project scoping, engineering, budgeting, planning, and coordination with operations and cross-functional members.
- Work closely with Process Engineering to identify, prioritize and develop solutions to remove process bottlenecks in converting operation.
- Implement an Engineering Change Process for manufacturing equipment within the AM&B business.
- Seek input from others and provide training.
- Develop plans to test new or alternate technologies including material and finished product test plan.
- Maintain knowledge of new technology within converting and adjacent manufacturing technologies.
- Knowledge and ability to operate, instruct, demonstrate, and troubleshoot machinery.
- Provide technical guidance in new product development, material trials, and product scale-up activities.
- Drive standardization across all converting platforms to improve repeatability, maintainability, and operator safety.
- Manage external vendors for equipment design, build, and integration—ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and timeliness.
- Ensure all equipment and systems meet regulatory and internal safety standards.
- Leverage CAD tools and technical design capabilities to support equipment design.
Qualifications
- 7+ years' experience in equipment engineering, printing, automation, web handling, or bag/pouch converting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Proven ability in mechanical and automation design for operational upgrades.
- Skilled in equipment development from concept to manufacturing, including mechanical, electrical, and controls.
- Knowledge of flexible packaging substrates for optimizing equipment quality and performance.
- Excellent critical thinking skills and innovative solutions approach.
- Thrive in a dynamic work environment, balancing short- and long-term goals.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional teams, including vendor management for sourcing and overseeing upgrades.
- Able to work independently as well as collaborate and seek input from others.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in Microsoft Teams or in-person meetings, as well as take thorough notes and follow up.
- Dedicated to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
- Experience in executing projects within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of machine design, controls systems (PLC/HMI/SCADA), and automation.
- Proficiency in the use of SolidWorks and data management software.
- Proficiency in the use of SolidWorks structural and motion analysis.
- Knowledge of machine design safety standards (required).
- Knowledge of EU safety standards and CE certification (desired).
- Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing setting (onsite) with exposure to noise, heat, and moving machinery.
- Ability to travel (typically ~30%) for vendor meetings or equipment FATs.
