About the role

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for the efficient implementation of the department-centric project portfolio and maintaining common engineering processes and systems. This role works closely with the Production or SCM Director, leadership team, peer Engineering staff, Finance, Maintenance, EHS, and Sustainability partners to ensure plant capital is efficiently and properly deployed. The Senior Project Engineer oversees the development, implementation, and oversight of all engineering project processes and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the efficient and proper allocation of the capital budget.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee engineering project processes and systems, including:
    • FEL Project development process
    • Capital project portfolio, including approvals, multi-year budget, and implementation plan
    • Document management system
    • Compliance to change-related systems (MOC, PSSR, Risk review, Hazop, etc.)
    • Post-project critique and performance evaluation
  • Accountable for the Management of Change (MOC), Hazard Study, and PSSR processes.
  • Ensure project progress tracking and deviation management to deliver design on time and within budget.
  • Responsible for personal project deliverables, forecasting, and broader portfolio deliverables.
  • Align project systems with Aurubis corporate engineering processes and standards.
  • Establish metrics to monitor and improve various project engineering systems.
  • Manage staffing (including supplemental contracting), establish MSAs, RFQs, contractor selection, review MSAs, evaluate supplier performance, and coordinate project activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or similar credential (e.g., CESCP, CPSE) preferred.
  • Project management certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of Industrial Capital Project Engineering experience ($50k – $5M+ projects).
  • Demonstrated engineering management experience.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project engineering processes, practices, and standards.
  • Experience using metrics to monitor and improve project systems.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to align and engage project teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience with major mechanical equipment in smelting processes preferred.
  • Ability to lead in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and technicalities.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and quantitative skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Must be willing and physically able to:
    • Observe and walk in a smelter environment.
    • Work in varying cold and heat conditions.
    • Handle prolonged periods of walking, standing, and bending.
    • Sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.
    • Lift up to 50 pounds at times.
    • Travel throughout the facility for audits and observations.
    • Wear all required PPE in protected areas.
    • Reach, grasp, and perform tasks requiring close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Travel domestically and/or internationally if requested.
