About the Role
The Project Engineer leads and manages engineering projects, developing project plans, budgets, sub-contractor statements of work, and project status reporting. This role involves making critical decisions impacting projects and engineering initiatives, fostering innovation, accountability, and process improvement. The position includes high-level engineering analysis, design, validation, and troubleshooting of complex components for heavy-duty vehicles, as well as integration and execution support for vehicle, system, subsystem, and component design.
Responsibilities
- Indirectly manage an engineering team consisting of Engineers, Designers, and Technicians.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate engineering activities.
- Provide coaching and development through regular performance feedback.
- Collaborate and build relationships with internal and external customers across segments and functions.
- Present and defend technical engineering decisions to Engineering leadership, Oshkosh leadership, and external customers.
- Ensure completion of projects or parts of projects of moderate complexity on time, including overall project schedule and budget.
- Manage multiple priorities.
- Perform complex engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks according to Oshkosh and general industry engineering standards.
- Prepare and deliver plans, designs, computation methods, and reporting.
- Collaborate with other engineering or business support disciplines internally and with external suppliers.
- Develop and review interface control documentation with suppliers and business partners, including mechanical, electrical, software, and controls.
- Provide guidance or mentorship to entry-level engineers.
- Research, create, and update standard engineering methodology and procedures.
- Participate in the budgeting process, including recommending capital improvements and preparing justification data.
- Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.
- Communicate project objectives to team members.
- Enforce proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards.
- Ensure technical issues are conducted within company policies and procedures.
- Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
- Create and maintain project documentation for analysis, research, and historical records.
- Perform engineering analysis to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements.
- Provide complex technical assistance for production support.
- Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering via verbal or written communication.
- Provide mentorship to team members to ensure appropriate engineering analysis is performed and documented.
- Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
- Prepare subcontractor Scopes of Work.
- In-office attendance is required.
Requirements
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
- Five or more years of related experience.
- Five years of engineering experience with 2+ years of successful engineering project management of medium or greater technical complexity.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP certification.
- Experience managing a project.
- Vehicle system experience.
- Experience in root-cause analysis, electro-mechanical system integrations, DFMEA & DVP&R development.
