Sr. Professional Staff Nurse, BSN
About the role
Join the Same Day Surgery team at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and help deliver exceptional care to pediatric patients throughout their surgical experience. In this part-time Registered Nurse role, you’ll provide expert perioperative nursing care during both the preoperative and postoperative phases, working closely with anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure outstanding patient outcomes and experiences.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a role model of professional nursing practice by serving as a recognized unit leader in one or more of the following areas: clinical expertise, teacher, specialized resource nurse, and/or evidence based practice.
- Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.
- Demonstrates a passion for developing others, enthusiastically and expertly precepts students, graduate nurses and new hires.
- Identifies opportunities for clinical quality as well as workplace improvement. Applies evidence based practice as a regular aspect of professional practice. Serves on or leads teams that launch innovations in patient care or support a healthy workforce.
- Builds and mends relationships among colleagues within the framework of a healthy workplace. Role models keen cultural awareness including preventing and addressing horizontal violence and impairment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- BSN preferred.
- Annnual completion of one professional contribution selected from department, hospital, or system goals and approved by the Unit Director through UPMC’s My Nursing Career Ladder, or certification.
- If a BSN is held, a Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of certification.
- Must obtain and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on the Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to achieve and maintain this level.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients served by the assigned unit.
- Possesses knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan and the ability to assess, interpret, and respond to patients’ age-specific needs.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with patients, families, physicians, advanced practice providers, leaders, staff, and other departments.
- Ability to work effectively in a complex environment, manage multiple priorities, and utilize specialized equipment.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead others in the application of the nursing process.
- Mobility, visual/manual dexterity, and physical stamina required for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
