About the role

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring a Senior Product Design Engineer for the Electrical Products and Services engineering team. This team is part of a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of products used within our rapidly expanding data center footprint. The team focuses on designing and developing resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Data Center Design Engineering, Principal Engineering, and Hardware Engineering teams to design and develop innovative concepts into new products needed for power distribution for data center.
  • Lead new product design, development, and work with internal teams to understand design requirements and solicit customer input.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines such as mechanical and structural engineering, reliability, QA/QC and compliance to create well thought out products.
  • Create designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements while delivering a return on investment.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment, devices and bill of materials.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries.
  • Prepare, Review and approval of product design and drawings including electrical bill of materials, configuration, layouts, assembly, construction and electrical wiring drawings.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during manufacturing phases.
  • Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly set up test processes and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
  • Able to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Support of Operations including failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting support, and operating procedure review.
  • Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
  • Having fun while offering creative, out-of-the-box solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • 4+ Years of experience of Electrical or Mechanical Product Design for Power Distribution Equipment, or 4+ years of Data Center or Mission-Critical Design, Construction, or Operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
  • 6+ Years of experience of Electrical or Mechanical Product Design for Power Distribution Equipment, or 6+ years of Data Center or Mission-Critical Design, Construction, or Operations.

Skills

  • Design electrical power distribution product/s.
  • Help to test and successfully test the products per latest codes and standards using third party test laboratories.
  • Define equipment specifications and evaluate the merit of design changes.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during manufacturing phases.
  • Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly set up test processes and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
