About the role
The Sr. Process Engineer will use their creativity, good judgment, and flexibility to reduce defects by eliminating root causes. They will work with suppliers to improve performance and ensure the measurement/inspection system meets customer needs. The role involves improving manufacturing cost, quality, uptime, yields, cycle time, and safety by evaluating new raw materials, new equipment, or new process parameters. Projects may support any Corning division or research and development.
Responsibilities
- Support the design and development of new processes or improvements to existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide
- Lead and support solving problems and improving processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem-solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma
- Champion the implementation of Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations, and use analytical skills to analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g. pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.)
- Maintain and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Standard Operating Instructions (SOS), experiment plans, and process changes
- Measure and communicate performance against established objectives, review and interpret data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long-term corrective actions, follow-up experiments, etc.
- Document processes and mentor operators and peers on defined processes
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemical, materials, ceramic, or mechanical engineering (master’s preferred)
- 3-5 years’ experience in engineering/manufacturing with a track record of successfully solving process problems based on fundamental understanding

- Ability to apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects
- Using creative and innovative problem-solving approaches, methods, and execution
- Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization
- Excellent Analytical Skills - Decision-making based on data
- Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
