Sr. Portfolio Associate
About the role
Axos Bank Target Range: $75,000.00/Yr. - $87,500.00/Yr. Actual starting pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of commercial real estate loans, including multifamily, mixed-use, and hospitality assets, ensuring ongoing asset performance and proactive risk mitigation
- Conduct quarterly loan reviews, including analysis of borrower financials, collateral performance, DSCR, LTV, and overall credit trends; assign and recommend appropriate risk ratings
- Monitor and enforce post-funding covenants, holdbacks, and financial reporting requirements, ensuring timely borrower compliance
- Analyze property and borrower financial statements and perform financial spreads to evaluate cash flow, asset performance, and global repayment capacity
- Process and underwrite borrower requests, including: Loan modifications and extensions, Payoff demands and loan payoffs, Partial releases of collateral and title transfers, Impound releases and insurance claim disbursements
- Coordinate collection of borrower financials through outreach campaigns and ongoing servicing touchpoints
- Partner cross-functionally with Loan Servicing, Credit Analytics, Legal, Special Assets, and Relationship Managers to resolve issues and execute transactions
- Identify deteriorating credits and escalate potential problem loans; support loss mitigation strategies and asset recovery efforts
- Prepare recurring and ad hoc portfolio reporting, including trend analysis, risk reporting, and performance metrics
- Mentor and train junior analysts on financial analysis, portfolio management processes, and credit fundamentals
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Finance, Real Estate, Accounting, or a related field)
- 3–5+ years of experience in commercial real estate lending, portfolio management, underwriting, or loan servicing
- Strong understanding of CRE credit metrics and structures (DSCR, LTV, NOI, global cash flow analysis)
- Experience with loan servicing processes including modifications, covenant compliance, payoffs, and collateral releases
- Ability to analyze financial statements and assess credit risk independently
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of loans and deadlines
- Excellent communication skills with experience interacting with borrowers and internal stakeholders
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and documentation
