Responsibilities
- Draft, review, revise, and maintain employee benefit plan documents, Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs), amendments, summaries of material modifications, and other plan-related documents for self-funded health plans.
- Ensure all plan documents accurately reflect client benefit designs and comply with applicable federal regulations, including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, MHPAEA, and other governing laws.
- Perform detailed quality assurance reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance prior to document distribution.
- Partner with Account Management, Sales, Implementation, Operations, Compliance, Legal, and other internal stakeholders to gather plan information, clarify requirements, and ensure timely completion of plan documents.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on plan document language, regulatory requirements, and document best practices, providing guidance to internal teams and supporting client discussions as needed.
- Monitor regulatory changes affecting employee benefit plans and incorporate required updates into plan documents, templates, and drafting processes.
- Develop, maintain, and improve standard document templates, workflows, and operating procedures to enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality.
- Maintain organized document management practices, including version control and accurate recordkeeping.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce errors, and increase operational efficiency within the Plan Document department.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
- Deliver exceptional internal and external customer service through timely communication, responsiveness, and a commitment to quality.
- Effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality when handling client, member, and proprietary company information.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience drafting employee benefit plan documents and Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs).
- Strong working knowledge of self-funded employee benefit plans and Third-Party Administration (TPA) operations preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other applicable employee benefits regulations.
- Experience interpreting plan language and translating benefit designs into compliant plan documents.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, including formatting, styles, templates, document comparisons, and complex editing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking, reporting, and document management.
