Sr Plan Document Consultant
About the role
As the Sr. Plan Document Consultant, you are responsible for the installation and ongoing plan document support of plan sponsors that meet the criteria for Voya’s plan document services. This role plays a critical part in supporting Sales and Client Transition Management teams by providing plan design consultations, conducting plan design reviews, drafting plan documents aligned with OMNI platform capabilities, and ensuring a seamless transition from plan design through implementation for onboarding clients.
Responsibilities
- Develop, prepare, and maintain plan documents for startup, spinoff, and conversion retirement plans, including plan amendments, restatements, summary plan descriptions, and supporting documentation.
- Interpret and apply complex retirement plan provisions and regulatory requirements, including Pre-Approved, Custom, and Volume Submitter plan documents for tax-exempt and corporate retirement plans.
- Successfully manage plan document restatement projects from initiation through completion.
- Collaborate with plan sponsors and advisors to design defined contribution plans that align with client objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Provide comprehensive plan design consultations during the client onboarding process.
- Support Sales and Client Services teams through pre-sales reviews of plan documentation and evaluation of potential business opportunities.
- Perform merger comparisons and protected benefits analyses for both pre-approved and individually designed plan documents.
- Conduct legal and regulatory research related to Department of Labor (DOL), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), ERISA, legislative, judicial, state, and federal guidance impacting retirement plans.
- Partner with Legal, Product, and Operations subject matter experts to evaluate complex plan requests and ensure plan documents align with operational capabilities and procedures.
- Identify plan provisions not supported by existing product offerings or pre-approved documents and recommend alternative plan design solutions.
- Collaborate with the Legal team to research and resolve complex operational and compliance questions.
- Assist in the development of workflows, tools, and procedures designed to improve the client experience and enhance plan document services.
- Support the training, mentoring, and peer review of Plan Document Consultants.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- 10+ years of defined contribution and qualified retirement plan experience, including plan design consultation, sales support, document drafting, and nondiscrimination testing.
- Strong knowledge of ERISA and IRS regulations governing retirement plans.
- Experience interpreting sophisticated retirement plan documents and applying regulatory requirements.
- Experience with FIS ASP, Exchange, and DMS systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Salesforce experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical, communication, consultation, and problem-solving skills.
- Positive, collaborative, and proactive approach to work.
Qualifications
- QKA designation or equivalent professional certification.
- Experience supporting tax-exempt retirement plans, including 401(a), 403(b), and 457(b) plans.
- Experience with merger and acquisition plan reviews, protected benefits analyses, and complex plan conversions.
- Experience collaborating with legal and operational partners on document development and regulatory interpretation.

Pay
The annual base salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000. In addition to base salary, Voya offers incentive opportunities (i.e., annual cash incentives, sales incentives, and/or long-term incentives) based on the role to reward the achievement of annual performance objectives. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed-upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
