Sr Packaging Engineer

About the role

This contractor will lead and support packaging-related work tied to manufacturing transfer, process validation, and design verification in a regulated medical-device environment. The role is part of the Specialist career stream as an individual contributor, delivering and managing projects from design to implementation while adhering to policies and using specialized knowledge acquired through advanced education.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and supply-chain teams.
• Develop and execute packaging test protocols and reports.
• Support validation and verification documentation.
• Evaluate packaging changes and associated technical rationale.
• Ensure compliance with FDA and EU MDR expectations.
• Design, develop, and test a wide variety of containers for product protection, display, and handling.
• Determine packaging specifications considering product nature, cost limitations, legal requirements, and protection needs (e.g., resistance to moisture, corrosive chemicals, temperature variations, light, heat, rough handling, and tampering).
• Design package exteriors for product identification, sales appeal, aesthetic quality, printing, and production techniques.
• Manage and coordinate Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) documentation.
• Support prototype line development in manufacturing facilities/plants.

Requirements

• University degree (advanced degree preferred).
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience (or 2 years with an advanced degree).
• Advanced knowledge of packaging engineering, combining breadth and depth.
• Practical knowledge of project management.
• Experience in a regulated medical-device environment.

Schedule

Full-time through November 2026, transitioning to part-time (20 hours per week) starting December 2026.
