About the role

The Office of General Maintenance seeks a professional to supervise and manage the day-to-day operations, ensuring the upkeep and repair of school facilities. This role also involves collaborating with various stakeholders to align maintenance needs with broader school objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise operational and administrative aspects of the General Maintenance section
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, and supervise the work of assigned employees and contractors
  • Collaborate with school administrators, department heads, and central office staff
  • Develop, implement, and assess office goals, policies, and procedures
  • Provide advice and direction to departmental management regarding contract administration, maintenance, and related issues
  • Propose organizational, policy, or business process changes to senior management
  • Prepare and present reports
  • Research, develop, and communicate recommendations and solutions to issues
  • Supervise the preparation of construction plans, material specifications, and related contract documents
  • Review and comment on contract documents
  • Review proposals for changes, additions, and deletions to contracts
  • Supervise and inspect work performed by contractors, vendors, consultants, and in-house staff
  • Evaluate staff and take appropriate performance management actions as needed
  • Maintain and review records of project progress
  • Prepare correspondence
  • Respond to building and equipment emergency events
  • Prepare and implement short and long-range plans for the preventive maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Prepare and administer budgets
  • Research, gather, and analyze cost data
  • Review and prepare reports

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree
  • Eight years of experience in general maintenance services repair, maintenance, and installation, three years of which were at supervisory level

Skills

  • Thorough knowledge, skills, and abilities in trades associated with various general maintenance projects
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials used in general maintenance repair, and installation
  • Knowledge of all related codes, safety standards and procedures
  • Knowledge of facilities management
  • Knowledge of personal computers and office software packages
  • Skilled in the installation, maintenance, and repair of general maintenance
  • Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, and schematics
  • Skilled in diagnosing and resolving problems with general maintenance systems
  • Skilled in managing general maintenance projects
  • Skilled in supervising in-house staff and contractors
  • Skilled in communicating effectively
  • Skilled in the use of database, spreadsheet, and word processing software

Physical and Environmental Conditions

The duties of this class require travel to work sites throughout Baltimore County. Conditions of employment include the requirement to work during emergency events, subject to call to duty, and may be required to work beyond their normally scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice.
