About the role

Amazon's Global Environmental Assurance and Protection team works to make Amazon the global benchmark for environmental excellence across our operations. As Senior Manager, Global Water Programs, you own Amazon's global water strategy and are accountable for steering Amazon toward that benchmark in the water domain. That scope covers water quality and discharge compliance, stormwater and wastewater management, water stewardship and conservation, and emerging water regulatory obligations. You will build and govern one global water program from multi-year planning through real-time execution. You lead a team that turns regulatory requirements into durable, auditable field execution.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain cross-organizational alignment on a unified water compliance vision, spanning all in-scope business units and integrating objectives into OP1, OP2, and quarterly planning cycles.
  • Own the strategic water program roadmap, including water quality, discharge, stormwater, and wastewater compliance programs and field execution frameworks.
  • Develop and govern multi-year operating plans, program budgets, and resource allocation strategies that balance immediate compliance obligations against long-term infrastructure investment.
  • Build and operate program controllership mechanisms that drive speed, quality, and accountability across internal and external stakeholders, proactively surfacing and mitigating water compliance risk.
  • Communicate compliance strategy, program status, and escalation risks clearly and concisely to Director and VP-level audiences across Operations, Legal, Finance, and Technology.
  • Partner with Amazon Legal, state and local regulators, environmental consultants, and technology teams to resolve water compliance barriers, accelerate engineered solutions, and reduce manual dependency in compliance execution.
  • Define, implement, and govern KPI and compliance metric frameworks that provide real-time visibility into water program performance, milestone achievement, and regulatory posture across all business units.
  • Lead the talent management lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, and structured development planning that builds organizational depth and capability.
  • Oversee work performed by third-party contractors, consultants, and inspection vendors, holding external partners accountable to program milestones and quality standards through structured audit and governance mechanisms.
  • Work autonomously in a highly ambiguous, high-stakes regulatory environment, exercising independent judgment to define the right strategy, structure, and mechanisms for delivering compliance outcomes at scale.
  • Embed water compliance objectives into day-to-day operational rhythms.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience owning program strategy, end-to-end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
  • 10+ years of risk management, audit, legal, compliance or related field work including engaging with external stakeholders experience
  • 7+ years of team management experience with 6 or more direct reports
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or a related field of study

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in regulatory compliance management with government agencies
  • Master's degree in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, hydrology, water resources, or a related field of study
  • Experience developing and implementing water compliance programs, for example water quality, discharge, stormwater, and wastewater, in accordance with applicable laws
  • Professional water credential where applicable, for example a Professional Engineer (PE) with a water or wastewater focus, a Certified Water Professional, or an equivalent professional environmental certification
  • Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management system design, implementation, or certification
