Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Water Products - REQ# 1559

Position Summary

This role provides the Commercial sales team and its customers with support to solve complex engineering and design problems. While supporting all commercial products, the focus is on a commercial domestic water heating product offered by METUS. The incumbent manages all aspects of technical support—including design assistance, project‑management support, technical training, and competitive analysis—and works closely with sales, service, and product‑development teams to become the Business Unit’s subject‑matter expert on domestic water heating products. The position is ideal for someone eager to help launch and grow a new product line.

Responsibilities

• Act as the subject‑matter expert and lead the project‑management process for commercial domestic water heating products.
• Provide technical and application support through development of technical materials, application training, competitive analysis, and design best practices for the BU sales team and external customers.
• Deliver Tier 2 support for the BU sales team, METUS distribution, and the HVAC specification community on complex application and design challenges.
• Develop engineering and application white papers addressing issues specific to domestic hot‑water products in the Northeastern and Mid‑Atlantic U.S. regions.
• Collaborate with another Mechanical Engineer to provide mechanical engineering and design support on other METUS HVAC products as needed.
• Work with BU Mechanical Engineers and the METUS Applications Team to create technical materials that solve customer concerns.
• Serve as liaison between BU Sales, METUS Applications, and Product Development teams to propose product ideas, evaluate technical documentation, and present application concepts.
• Partner with BU Management to define annual requirements (budget, software, hardware investments, etc.) to support the Business Unit.
• Travel up to 30 % for company meetings and training, domestically and potentially internationally.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field from an ABET‑accredited program (Master’s preferred).
• 10 + years of HVAC or plumbing mechanical engineering or application engineering experience, with a focus on space heating or domestic water heating.
• Self‑motivated with a desire to build a product from the ground floor.
• Experience with engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Trane Trace 3D Plus (preferred).
• Understanding of HVACR, psychrometrics, and plumbing concepts (ideal).
• P.E. license and/or LEED AP accreditation (preferred).
• Proven track record of managing technical and complex products from an application or engineering standpoint.
• Project‑management experience (preferred).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD, energy‑modeling software, and Revit experience preferred.
• Strong communication, technical writing, and presentation/training skills.

Pay

The base pay range at commencement of employment is expected to be between $111,200 and $139,000 per year. Actual base pay may vary based on market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Total compensation may also include target bonus plans and discretionary awards.
