Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Water Products - REQ # 1295
About the Role
This role is responsible for providing the Commercial sales team and its customers with support to solve complex engineering and design problems. While supporting all commercial products, the focus will be on an exciting commercial domestic water heating product offered by METUS. This person will manage all aspects of technical support for these products, including design assistance, project management support, technical training, and technical competitive analysis. The role involves working closely with sales, service, and product development teams to become the Business Unit’s subject matter expert on domestic water heating products. This position offers the opportunity to start on the ground floor with a product expected to grow significantly in the coming years.
Responsibilities
- Act as the subject matter expert and lead the project management process on commercial domestic water heating products.
- Provide technical and application support for commercial water heating products through the development of technical materials, application training, competitive analysis, and design best practices for the BU sales team and external customers.
- Provide Tier 2 support for the BU sales team, METUS distribution, and the HVAC specification community to resolve complex application and technical design challenges.
- Develop engineering and application white papers addressing issues specific to domestic hot water products in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States.
- Work alongside another Mechanical Engineer to provide mechanical engineering and design support on other METUS HVAC products as needed.
- Collaborate with other BU Mechanical Engineers and the METUS Applications Team to develop technical materials to solve customer concerns.
- Act as a liaison between the BU Sales team and METUS Applications and Product Development teams to provide product ideas, evaluate technical documentation, and present application ideas for evaluation.
- Collaborate with BU Management to define annual requirements (e.g., budget, software, and hardware investments) to support the BU.
- Travel up to 30% for various Company meetings and training, both domestically and possibly internationally.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in mechanical engineering or a similar technical degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline preferred.
- 10+ years of HVAC or plumbing mechanical engineering or application engineering experience, specifically in space heating or domestic water heating.
- Self-motivated with a desire to start on the ground floor with a unique product.
- Experience with engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Trane Trace 3D Plus is preferred.
- Understanding of HVACR and psychometrics concepts, in addition to plumbing, is ideal.
- P.E. license and/or LEED A.P. accredited professional preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of managing technical and complex products from an application or engineering standpoint.
- Project management experience preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD, energy modeling software, and Revit experience preferred.
- Strong communication, technical writing, and presentation/training skills.

Pay
The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $111,200 and $152,900 per year. Base pay may vary depending on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include target bonus plans and discretionary awards.
