About the role
This is a highly collaborative, fast-paced position on the Jupiter team. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead and support projects as part of a cross-functional global team, spending more than 80% of the time in the lab and office in San Diego, CA.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support mechanical engineering projects, including requirements remediation, writing mechanical test protocols and reports, solving test or design issues, and performing mechanical testing.
- Translate requirements into basic specifications and designs with moderate guidance.
- Develop and execute test protocols and write reports with moderate guidance.
- Independently test, analyze, and solve technical problems.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including marketing, sales, clinical, regulatory, medical affairs, quality, and manufacturing.
- Manage multiple projects of varying scopes in parallel.
- Direct technicians and junior engineers.
- Apply fundamental Mechanical Engineering principles to solve manufacturing and engineering problems.
- Create and maintain design control documentation in accordance with design control processes.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of relevant engineering experience in medical device or aerospace.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering with emphasis on mechanical design and product development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- Experience with design control processes and documentation.
- Gage R&R or MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis) testing experience.
- Requirements remediation experience is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering with emphasis on mechanical design and product development.
- Experience with Gage R&R, MSAs, and test method validation.
- Experience with medical device sterilization and injection molding DFM for high-volume manufacturing of medical disposables.
- Experience with plastics extrusion.
- Familiarity with ISO standards and medical device design controls.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tool, GD&T, SAP, and DFSS.
