About the Role

SIG SAUER, Inc. is a leading provider and manufacturer of firearms, electro-optics, ammunition, airguns, suppressors, remote controlled weapons stations, and training. The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Electromechanical Systems, is responsible for developing, implementing, and improving a variety of electromechanical assembly processes, new technology, and full production lines with emphasis on precision firearm components and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and design manufacturing processes in the plant while considering ESD control procedures for electromechanical assemblies.
  • Determine manufacturing processes for new and breakthrough firearm product designs while providing budgetary estimates for equipment, tools, gages, and production rate.
  • Use project management techniques to procure tooling and equipment for new products to meet launch timelines and cost targets.
  • Assume responsibility for achieving the cost, productivity, and quality goals for an entire production line while working with cross-functional teams.
  • Generate annual cost savings plan for areas of responsibility via formal cost savings analysis using established procedures.
  • Evaluate and improve product designs for manufacturability while applying GD&T and dimensional stack-ups.
  • Debug and runoff new capital equipment to meet plant goals for quality, throughput, and cost.
  • Provide expert consultation in electromechanical systems, assembly, metal finishing, and automation for technical systems and manufacturing processes.
  • Plan and execute turkey runoffs per SIG SAUER machine specification requirements including raw material and gages.
  • Specify and procure new capital equipment to meet plant goals for quality, throughput, and cost; generate new machine specifications and negotiate requirements with suppliers.
  • Generate detailed process drawings, quality control plans, operator and set-up work instructions, and set-up sheets and production routings using SIG Agile product lifecycle database.
  • Recommend and implement new technology to improve quality of products, procedures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Resolve and prevent quality issues related to product and processes using statistical methods (e.g., gage R&R, bias, dimensional stack-ups, control plan methodology, GD&T).
  • Maintain research, activity documentation, and prepare reports.
  • Perform as technical leader and resource to co-workers while actively mentoring less experienced Engineers on both mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Provide consultation on problem-solving teams across multiple products and processes and complete assigned tasks per agreed timelines.
  • Lead and actively volunteer for continuous improvement projects and tasks.
  • Participate in 5S Workplace organizational activities and maintain areas in good working order.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 7-10 years of previous experience.
  • Strong electromechanical systems experience (e.g., mechanical assemblies, PCBAs, wiring, embedded hardware).
  • Hands-on experience with electrical debugging tools including multimeter, oscilloscope, and hardware bring-up.
  • Practical understanding of both digital and analog electrical systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) ASME Y14.5M-2009.
  • Certification for Shainin Red X and/or Six Sigma desired.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and monday.com.
  • Expert in using SOLIDWORKS and data analysis programs.
  • Good working knowledge of materials, heat-treating processes, and ESD control procedures (e.g., proper use of an Electrostatic Protected Area).
  • Experience evaluating, building, and troubleshooting manufacturing processes, machinery, and production lines.
  • Understanding of supplier manufacturing processes for electrical components and PCBAs, including DFM/DFT principles.
  • Ability to work in a team, lead, plan, and execute multiple projects.
  • High-quality work standards and ability to clearly convey complex ideas verbally and in writing.
  • Expertise in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills, including documentation and recordkeeping; skilled in Gantt charts and formal project management techniques.
  • Wide degree of creativity and latitude.

Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, twist, lift, and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
