About the role

The Worldwide Operations WHS Governance and External Affairs team seeks a Sr. Manager, Governance and Compliance to own strategy development, program and project management, and business process leadership across global operations. This leader will build and execute a comprehensive governance strategy spanning regulatory compliance, internal and external audits, recordkeeping, environmental assurance, external stakeholder engagement, and standards development. The role demands a strategic thinker who can operate at the intersection of regulatory risk, operational excellence, and cross-functional collaboration.

The successful candidate will drive end-to-end program management for high-priority initiatives, establish scalable business processes, and translate complex regulatory landscapes into actionable frameworks for hundreds of thousands of associates across the Amazon Operations network. They will manage regulatory projects across multi-jurisdictional environments, assess and prioritize risk exposure, and provide executive-level briefings on emerging compliance challenges. Agility and flexibility are required to ensure programs and processes adapt and scale in a rapidly evolving global environment while maintaining the highest safety standards and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a large portfolio of concurrent projects independently in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
  • Establish program metrics, milestones, and reporting cadences (WBR/MBR/QBR) to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Lead end-to-end program management for mission-critical initiatives spanning multi-dimensional business processes and WHS.
  • Analyze safety performance metrics and incident data to identify areas for short-term and long-term continuous improvement.
  • Conduct trend analysis to identify root causes, factors, and patterns in workplace health and safety data.
  • Use data-driven approaches to influence change and drive improvements across the operations network.
  • Build trust and confidence with Operations, Worldwide WHS team, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Influence decisions of senior business leaders through logical reasoning, relevant data, and alternative solutions.
  • Identify areas of improvement and efficiency across compliance systems and processes.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive program plans for the design, development, and implementation of compliance systems and tools.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in risk management, audit, legal, compliance, or a related field, including engaging with external stakeholders.
  • 7+ years of team management experience with 5 or more direct reports.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Experience working within a global company, with multi-country responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and process improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), or regulatory requirements or standards.
  • Experience with audit or risk program design, control environment process documentation, and control mapping.
  • Master's degree in Health and Safety or a related field.

Pay

  • USA, TN, Nashville: $142,700.00 - $193,100.00 USD annually
  • USA, VA, Arlington: $158,600.00 - $214,500.00 USD annually
  • USA, WA, Bellevue: $158,600.00 - $214,500.00 USD annually
