About the role

The Sr. Manager, Systems Engineering (Electronics) is a key role responsible for Rheem’s controls system engineering development process and providing visionary leadership to our team of System Engineers developing innovative electronic control solutions. This role plays a critical part in shaping the future of Rheem’s Water Heating solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Providing exemplary leadership and mentorship to our team of electronic controls system engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Leading the development and extension of system architecture and design for electronic controller applications, driving technological advancements and ensuring robust solutions.
  • Leading project management for electronic control system development and verification activities, ensuring projects are executed efficiently and effectively.
  • Overseeing system work product reviews and ensuring the closure of action items before the release of design documentation and work products.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to define and improve system work products, processes, and quality criteria, elevating our development capabilities and product quality.
  • Engaging with software, hardware, test, and product development teams throughout the product life cycle, ensuring seamless integration of system engineering work products.
  • Defining, documenting, and updating controller system requirements and verification plans in collaboration with various teams.
  • Defining and documenting controller system architecture, including key functional blocks, inputs, outputs, and interfaces.
  • Maintaining a controller traceability matrix, mapping controller requirements to associated verification activities and results, and actively participating in verification activities.
  • Participating in product design reviews to guarantee that products meet hardware and software feature requirements.
  • Assisting manufacturing engineering and suppliers by contributing to the development of product test procedures and control documentation.
  • Collaborating closely with the customer service team to provide support for product training and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Presenting roadmaps, status updates, and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

Requirements

  • An innovative solution-first spirit with the ability to think creatively and drive forward-looking solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical discipline).
  • 10+ years of experience in the development and/or testing of embedded microprocessor-based controls, along with 5+ years of successful embedded system engineering project management.
  • Gained progressive experience from individual contributor to leading a team.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience with electronic controls for Water Heating and/or HVAC equipment is highly valued.
  • Engineering Expertise: Proficiency in System Requirements Documentation, Requirements Allocation, Requirements Traceability, and Test Case development and execution.
  • Safety and Certification: Familiarity with Functional Safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO26262) or Agency Certification Requirements (e.g., UL 60730, UL 174, etc.).
  • Quality Assurance: Experience with product and component level FMEAs and electronics failure analysis.
  • Product Lifecycle Management: A track record of managing embedded systems development over the entire product lifecycle.
  • Technical Competence: Ability to read, understand, and implement technical procedures and government regulations, as well as interpret a variety of schematic, electrical, and mechanical diagrams.
  • Collaborative Skills: Proficiency in working with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, business teams, and external subject matter experts.
  • Passion for Innovation: A deep passion for building and owning innovative, customer-facing services/products.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional presentation and communication skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software such as the MS Office Suite.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in HVAC applications is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Test Development for Electronic Products.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification.
  • Experience in Quality and Reliability aspects of product development.
  • Project management experience is a plus.

Benefits

This position will serve Rheem North America, located in Roswell, GA or Montgomery, AL (Hybrid). This role follows our hybrid work arrangement, with team members working in the office Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays.
