About the role

Central Garden & Pet, based in Walnut Creek, CA, is seeking a Sr. Manager, Digital Marketing, SEO & Website Content to lead SEO strategy and website content management across brand websites and eCommerce platforms. This role drives search optimization, oversees technical and content enhancements, manages agency and cross-functional partnerships, and measures digital performance against business goals.

The Walnut Creek office is located one block from the Pleasant Hill Bart Station and within walking distance to restaurants, shops, Bay Club, and the Iron Horse Trail. Employees are provided with free parking and a free on-site fitness center, along with pet product discounts.

This position is based in the Walnut Creek, CA office. The hybrid work environment requires in-office presence at least three days per week, transitioning to four days per week beginning in September 2026 to support collaboration and team connection.

Responsibilities

  • Lead SEO across owned websites and eCommerce platforms, monitoring and analyzing internal and competitor metrics (e.g., keyword performance, traffic, topical authority) to inform brand, customer, digital, and eCommerce partners.
  • Compile recommendations for content optimization and technical development, managing agencies, developers, eCommerce, and digital teams on SEO projects.
  • Audit brand websites for technical issues affecting UX and search rankings, working with the development team to resolve glitches and optimize performance.
  • Audit domains for backlink authority, create and maintain 301 redirect mappings to retain and grow search authority.
  • Recommend and project manage advanced SEO initiatives (e.g., link-building, toxic backlink disavowal, schema automation).
  • Measure and report website and eCommerce SEO performance against goals/KPIs, providing analysis and optimization recommendations.
  • Track and communicate ongoing and completed website and eCommerce optimization projects and development tickets.
  • Lead website content management, coordinating deployment of creative assets, optimizing content, and managing brand promotions across websites and landing pages.
  • Lead projects to gather, format, update, maintain, and optimize product data for brand sites, third-party review syndication, and online purchase functionality.
  • Assist in managing external agencies on website builds, microsites, site structure changes, and technical/content QA.
  • Collaborate with internal brand, digital marketing, design teams, agencies, and vendor partners, especially where Marketing and Development intersect.
  • Partner with Web Development to prioritize activities and communicate with brand teams.
  • Provide SEO training to developers, creative, eCommerce, brand, digital, and customer marketing teams as needed.
  • Deliver basic CMS update training for internal partners and advanced CMS training for digital marketing teams.
  • Train creative, digital, and eCommerce teams on best practices for article, image, and product content creation/optimization.
  • Train digital teams on best practices for troubleshooting and QAing technical/backend projects (e.g., website redesigns, third-party linking, scripted content load).
  • Research, understand, and cascade SEO trends and new technologies, providing expertise for adoption at the business unit or enterprise level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of digital marketing experience, including 5+ years in Content Marketing, SEO, and/or Marketing Technologist roles.
  • Extensive experience leading projects implementing and QAing new website functionality, content load, website redesigns, and migrations.
  • Content management system experience (3+ years in Sitecore; WordPress a plus).
  • Knowledge of marketing technology software (HubSpot CRM a plus).
  • Extensive experience with SEO analytics platforms (e.g., Search Console, SEMrush, Majestic, Lumar).
  • Extensive experience with HTML and JSON-LD (JavaScript and CSS a plus).
  • 5+ years’ experience setting up tracking and reporting for digital marketing campaigns using Google Tag Manager and similar tools.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience managing multiple internal stakeholders and interacting with business and development partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across organizational levels (Spanish fluency a plus).
  • Ability to translate data into easy-to-understand reports.
  • Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking.

Pay

$120,000 - $130,000 per year, depending on experience and geographic location. Eligible for a management incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
