About the Role

We are seeking a Sr Manager, AI Engineering to lead a team of AI Engineers within the AWS AI Engineering Team, part of the Cloud and AI Innovation Team (CAIT). This role involves hiring, developing, and inspiring a high-performing team of customer-facing developers and architects who help enterprises architect and deploy systems using AI. The ideal candidate will serve as a technically credible executive sponsor to strategic customers, engage in AI strategy conversations with top-level executives, and drive thought leadership in generative AI and agentic systems.

Responsibilities

• Hire, develop, and retain a world-class team of Applied AI Architects, fostering a culture of technical excellence, customer obsession, and continuous learning.
• Set the technical vision and strategic direction for the Applied AI Architecture practice worldwide.
• Serve as a technically credible executive sponsor to strategic customers, engaging directly with C-level technology leaders on AI strategy and production architecture.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with AWS service and product teams to establish feedback loops and influence product roadmaps.
• Drive thought leadership through publications, frameworks, and speaking engagements that position AWS as a leader in production generative AI and agentic systems.
• Create scalable programs, tools, and enablement assets to help the broader AWS field execute generative AI engagements at scale.
• Navigate ambiguity in a fast-moving technical domain, making directional decisions with incomplete information.
• Represent the voice of the customer internally, synthesizing patterns across engagements to inform organizational strategy and investment priorities.

About the Team

AI Engineering is a global team within the Solutions Architect organization focused on helping customers build and use AI agents. We operate at the frontier of AI, bridging foundation models and production systems through direct customer engagements, open-source accelerators, and close collaboration with AWS service teams. The role combines engineering, advisory work, and product influence, maintaining high standards while operating with speed and staying grounded in customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering experience
• 5+ years of engineering team management experience
• 10+ years of planning, designing, developing, and delivering consumer software experience
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects, and development teams in an Agile environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience partnering with product and program management teams
• Experience designing and developing large-scale, high-traffic applications

Pay

The base salary range for this position is:

• USA, CA, San Francisco: $253,100.00 - $342,300.00 USD annually
• USA, WA, Seattle: $220,100.00 - $297,700.00 USD annually

Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. The Amazon package includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), along with comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
