As a Senior Maintenance/Facilities Engineer, you will support day-to-day operations, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency of plant critical systems, manufacturing equipment, and critical utilities. This role involves engineering studies, process improvements, and validation support to maximize production equipment performance.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical hands-on support and continuous improvement for production equipment, automation, infrastructure, utilities, and capital projects.
- Act as a primary contact for management and maintenance of critical systems, infrastructure, and process equipment.
- Offer engineering support to manufacturing and maintenance groups to troubleshoot and improve equipment and process performance.
- Maintain documentation for manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Lead and collaborate on CAPA and NCR investigations, identifying root causes, corrective/preventive actions, and monitoring plans using problem-solving methodologies and failure mode analyses.
- Partner with manufacturing to implement lean principles for equipment, process, or utilities issues.
- Develop and coordinate procedures for engineering documentation, including Master Validation Plans, PFMEA, Equipment Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation activities.
- Apply statistical tools (e.g., Minitab) for analysis using SPC, SQC, and DOE.
- Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to safety guidelines and compliance with CA state and federal EPA regulations.
- Complete EHS/Safety activities, including Benchmark ATS and Hazard ID actions.
- Ensure all mandatory training requirements (EHS, GMP, etc.) are met for all employees.
- Manage vendor interactions, equipment specifications/design, and vendor negotiations for capital projects.
Qualifications
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of employees, suppliers, and consultants.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including cGDP documentation practices.
- Ability to identify, define, and solve complex problems using a data-driven approach (e.g., DMAIC).
- Experience authoring and executing engineering test and validation protocols for manufacturing processes, equipment, and utilities.
- Ability to update procedures and modify processes to reduce complexity and improve efficiency.
- Experience presenting project overviews and departmental presentations.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or Electrical Engineering, or a similar field.
- 3-5 years of experience in Maintenance/Facilities/Engineering within the Pharmaceutical or Medical Device Manufacturing Industry (preferred).
- Experience with statistical analysis (preferred).
- Green Belt, Black Belt, or PMP certification (preferred).
Physical Demands & Working Environment
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps.
- Standing: Sustained periods of time.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, including between buildings.
- Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.
