Sr Machinist (2nd Shift)

About the role

Set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines such as mills and lathes to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.

This role is on our second shift team: Monday–Thursday, 2:30 p.m.–1:00 a.m. (some extended hours may occasionally be required) plus some Saturdays. The schedule follows a 4/10 holiday plan.

Responsibilities

• Analyze work orders, blueprints, and work pieces to determine process, materials, equipment, and sequence of operations required to machine parts.
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, grinders, and saws.
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, depth, and angle of cut; enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
• Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions, adjust machine controls as required, and verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications and blueprints using appropriate measuring devices.
• Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
• Confer with engineers, production personnel, and others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
• Perform any other related or unrelated tasks assigned from time to time.

Requirements

• Four years of related experience in an industrial machine shop environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Thorough knowledge of materials used (sheet metal, copper, stainless steel).
• Proven job planning abilities and mathematical skills needed for machining.
• Proficiency in shop mathematics through geometry and ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to resolve practical problems and deal with variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, specifications, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts and apply basic algebra and geometry.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent GED.

Pay

Pay may range from $34 to $37 hourly. Second shift pays an additional 10% shift differential for hours worked during the shift. The range represents annual base salary only; final compensation will be determined based on job level, geographic location, date of hire, experience, job-related knowledge and skills, and education.
