Responsibilities
- Team Supervision & Development: Lead and manage a team of weight and inspection specialists to ensure accurate freight classification, documentation, and compliance.
- Training & Coaching: Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to team members to maintain high operational standards.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with federal regulations (e.g., DOT), industry standards (NMFTA), and internal policies. Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to weight, classification, or documentation.
- Maintain Records: Maintain high-quality inspection records and ensure proper audit readiness.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Operations, Sales, Customer Service, and Billing teams to address classification issues, customer disputes, and revenue recovery. Serve as a subject matter expert in freight classification and weight compliance.
- Process Improvement & Innovation: Identify inefficiencies in inspection processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Utilize data analytics to reduce misclassification and improve revenue capture. Recommend and implement best practices and new technologies to streamline operations.
- Reporting & Metrics: Develop and maintain KPIs related to inspection accuracy, team performance, and revenue impact. Provide regular reports and insights to upper management regarding trends, exceptions, and improvement opportunities.
- Leadership & Representation: Represent the Weight & Inspections department in leadership meetings and strategic planning sessions. Champion integrity, accountability, and fairness in all inspection and classification decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Three-year minimum experience performing weight and inspections for LTL carrier required.
- Knowledge of NMFC classification guide required.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills, with a commitment to safety at all times.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations.
- Proficiency in using measurement equipment and tools.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to inspection sites.
- Certification as a W&I inspector is a plus.
