Sr. (Lead) Market Design Specialist I (II)

About the role
We are seeking a talented and motivated Market Design Specialist to join our dynamic team. The Market Design Specialist will work directly with the Manager of market design in support of significant market design enhancements across all PJM's markets. You will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing market structures and rules to ensure efficiency, sustainability, and reliability of the power system during the energy transition. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, PJM stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to develop innovative solutions addressing the evolving needs of electricity markets.
Responsibilities
- Market Analysis and Research: Conduct comprehensive analysis of electricity market trends and other ISO/RTO market rules and practices to identify opportunities or inform design decisions.
- Market Design and Analysis:
- Work independently on complex studies and analysis of market design issues.
- Offer concepts and strategies to keep PJM at the forefront of market design.
- Apply working knowledge of PJM markets, agreements, and tariffs.
- Solve new and complex problems using expertise to evolve PJM markets.
- Develop position papers supporting market design alternatives and facilitate internal decision-making.
- Stakeholder and Regulatory Engagement:
- Manage conflicting expectations among market participants.
- Develop and deliver presentations on complex ideas to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in revising PJM governing documents to support proposed market design changes.
- Work closely with PJM legal counsel on FERC filings, including drafting and revising transmittal letters and affidavits.
- Project Management: Lead the implementation of complex market design initiatives, driving cross-functional internal teams to consensus on selected approaches.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics, Mathematics, or equivalent work experience.
- 5 years of experience in an Engineer/Analyst position.
- Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail.
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Ability to apply mathematical and electrical theory.
- Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support.
PJM is not STEM OPT eligible. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS degree in Engineering or at least 8 years of experience as a Sr. Engineer/Sr. Analyst.
- Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions.
