About the role
Experienced incumbent is responsible for all facets of land management duties related to subsurface rights and operations in a particular, high-profile geographic area. This includes negotiating and drafting complex land agreements, developing and executing land strategies, performing in-depth land-related research, and working closely with government officials—possibly testifying at oil and gas commission hearings. The role also involves conducting due diligence for acquisitions, divestitures, and trades, as well as building and maintaining relationships with internal land administration groups to assist with title curative work.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, evaluates, and assimilates opportunities to acquire land or operating and drilling rights.
- Negotiates, writes, reviews, and amends agreements such as farm-in/farm-outs, term assignments, joint operating agreements, and other detailed agreements.
- Works with land administration and support personnel to maintain accurate land records.
- Stays abreast of regulatory provisions, trending practices, and land values to add value and maintain compliance with contractual requirements.
- Collaborates with integrated Geology and Engineering teams to evaluate acquisition targets.
- Reviews and makes recommendations regarding property and asset divestitures and acquisitions.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Land/Energy Management or related field required.
- 5+ years of experience in land management or a related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Must be detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to adapt to a changing and fast-paced work environment.
- Willingness to travel 10%-15% for mandatory meetings, training, and field visits.
- Ability to work extended hours on short notice.
Preferred Qualifications
- BLM and State of New Mexico relations experience.
- AAPL certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of unconventional/conventional resource plays.
Working Conditions
- Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment with typing, sitting, and standing.
- Personal protection equipment (PPE), including head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame-resistant clothing, is required when visiting operational worksites.
- Safety rules, including OSHA and DOT requirements, are strictly enforced.
