About the role

AWS Compute & ML Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to help deliver the highest standards for safety, security, and seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.

As part of the AWS Hardware Engineering (HWEng) team, you will create compute, accelerator, edge, and storage server designs for Amazon’s web services. Our designs are industry-leading in performance, frugality, and operational excellence. You’ll solve challenging technology problems and build architecturally sound, high-quality server systems and components that enable AWS’s business and over one million customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build infrastructure to operate storage platforms at massive scale as a lead engineer on the HWEng Drives team.
  • Lead the integration and delivery of SSD from OEM suppliers.
  • Support the development of automated monitoring and failure analysis services to operate, debug, and scale storage devices.
  • Collaborate with AWS software teams to tailor and operate storage solutions for the AWS environment.
  • Provide leadership in applying new technologies to large-scale server deployments to improve performance, quality, and cost.
  • Drive operational excellence by building software services for optimizing SSD performance and health at scale, including faster detection, prevention, and root-cause analysis of issues.
  • Lead the rollout of new drives for new and existing platforms.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hardware design and validation experience for components, subsystems, and systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience with root-cause analysis, debug, and resolution of issues on storage systems in a Linux environment.
  • Experience with system integration and operation of SSDs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient coding, scripting, and debug abilities in a Linux environment.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
  • Expertise in server technologies such as thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, including functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Alignment with Amazon’s leadership principles for this role.

Pay

Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Base salary ranges:

  • Cupertino, CA: $183,000 - $247,600 USD annually
  • Denver, CO: $159,200 - $215,300 USD annually
  • Seattle, WA: $159,200 - $215,300 USD annually
