Sr Financial Analyst, Digital (REMOTE)
About the role
The Senior Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) within Cengage's R&D department plays a crucial role in supporting financial performance by analyzing R&D spend and return on investment. This position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, with a minimum of 2-4 years of FP&A, private equity, or similar experience.
Responsibilities
- R&D Project-Based Analysis including budgeting & forecasting
- Tracking time and cost spent in R&D supporting various Business Units, corporate initiatives, and alignment to strategic priorities
- Making and maintaining labor/financial models that efficiently ladder from person/time to rollup financial summaries
- Developing critical business case inputs for planning and investment decisions
- Liaising with Technical Accounting and Fixed Assets to ensure proper treatment and documentation of capital projects
- Aiding in crafting budgeting and forecasting decks for executive discussions
- Preparing and distributing monthly financial reports detailing performance
- Proactively identifying key insights in performance trends and providing analysis
- Supporting project tracking and transparency to stakeholders
- Assisting in investor presentations and data requirements for reporting
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience in FP&A, private equity, or a similar role
- Prior experience in a Finance role supporting the R&D function with specific expertise with time-tracking tools, Jira, and/or similar
- Excellent working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience, confidence, and capability to collaborate with and influence senior leaders
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple activities
- Aptitude for utilizing AI and partnering in operational transformations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Outstanding analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
- Curiosity, resourcefulness, flexibility, and a willingness to collaborate
- Self-starter who takes initiative; confident under pressure and meets deadlines
Qualifications
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, with a minimum of 2-4 years of FP&A, private equity, or similar experience. Prior experience in a Finance role supporting the R&D function with specific expertise in time-tracking tools, Jira, and/or similar is preferred. Excellent working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint is required, along with the ability to translate non-financial tools into financial metrics. Experience collaborating with senior leaders and the ability to balance multiple activities are essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong aptitude for utilizing AI and partnering in operational transformations, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. Outstanding analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills are also necessary. A self-starter with a proven track record of initiative and meeting deadlines is highly valued.
