Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, delivering natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million residents across all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. This role is not eligible for immigration sponsorship (e.g., H-1B, TN) now or in the future.

About the role

The Senior EPC Project Manager oversees complex, technical projects to ensure they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with established quality standards. This role leads cross-functional project teams of internal stakeholders and external contractors, serving as the primary point of contact for project communications and risk management.

This is a hybrid position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at one of the following locations: Saginaw Service Center, Alma Service Center, Flint Service Center, or Royal Oak Service Center. The selected candidate must be within commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package available for those who qualify).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial forecasts and reconcile project expenditures to ensure projects remain within approved budgets.
  • Identify and recommend new processes, techniques, and standards to enhance performance and resolve project challenges.
  • Mentor less experienced EPC Project Managers on project governance and management principles.
  • Lead project teams through planning, design, engineering, execution, and commissioning phases while ensuring compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project execution plans, including material procurement, milestone payment schedules, cash flow planning, risk analysis, and resource management.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously across various stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Plan and execute the Project Lifecycle Process (PLP), ensuring projects meet scope, cost, schedule, safety, and quality objectives.
  • Integrate safety into all aspects of project execution.
  • Oversee project schedules in partnership with the Project Scheduling Group, monitoring performance and managing risks related to critical path activities.
  • Communicate schedule status and impacts to stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary lead for stakeholder communications and negotiations, including presentations to leadership and regulatory agencies.
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues, and constraints, developing contingency plans and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide input on procurement strategies, contract development, negotiations, and administration to maximize performance and minimize risk.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of engineering principles, technologies, and procedures related to energy production and delivery.
  • Understanding of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership practices.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while managing multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in structured problem-solving methodologies and continuous improvement tools.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and quality improvement tools (e.g., trend analysis, Pareto charts, control charts).
  • Experience with visual management tools and Lean principles.

Qualifications

One of the following combinations of education and experience is required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Engineering, or a related field and four (4) or more years of applied engineering or equivalent experience, including significant project management experience utilizing Enterprise Project Management (EPM) Project Lifecycle Processes (PLP).
  • Associate degree in Engineering, Applied Engineering, or a related field and six (6) or more years of applied engineering or equivalent experience, including significant project management experience utilizing EPM PLP.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and eight (8) or more years of applied engineering or equivalent experience, including significant project management experience utilizing EPM PLP.
