Responsibilities

  • Performs testing assignments and provides guidance to newer engineers/technicians.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the current distribution system design.
  • Evaluates, develops, and implements new test equipment, tools, and designs.
  • Participates in training and attends classes.
  • Supports general engineer functions in Distribution Automation.
  • Independently or leads employees/contractors in the commissioning of electrical systems or equipment.
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on distribution and transmission relays, communications equipment, power reclosers, etc.
  • Conducts basic hands-on acceptance and in-service testing of transmission and distribution equipment.
  • Restores malfunctioning transmission and distribution equipment under emergency conditions.
  • Completes required paperwork as necessary.
  • Provides on-the-job and formal classroom training.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field and 3 or more years of technical experience, or an associate's degree and 5 or more years of technical experience, or 7 or more years of technical experience or relevant education.
  • Successful completion of the TECH Test (a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university exempts this requirement).
  • Demonstrated ability to direct crews during maintenance or commissioning of equipment or systems.
  • Demonstrated ability using OJE process to independently investigate and test/troubleshoot & commission distribution automation system equipment.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Frequent travel to various company substations or other locations within the service territory.
  • Available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of complex field test equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Relevant education/experience in electrical power equipment.
