Sr Engineering Tech - Testing & Commissioning - Rockford, Illinois

About the role

We are seeking a skilled individual to join our team as a Distribution Testing Engineer. This role involves working independently on complex issues and large projects, focusing on testing and evaluating distribution and transmission systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs testing assignments and provides guidance to newer engineers/technicians.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of the current distribution system design.
• Evaluates, develops, and implements new test equipment, tools, and designs.
• Conducts basic hands-on acceptance and in-service testing of transmission and distribution equipment.
• Assists with the restoration of malfunctioning transmission and distribution equipment under emergency conditions.
• Completes required paperwork to document work performed.
• Provides on-the-job and formal classroom training.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a technical field and 3 or more years of technical experience, or an associate's degree and 5 or more years of technical experience, or 7 or more years of technical experience or relevant education.
• Successful completion of the TECH Test.
• Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to direct crews during maintenance or commissioning of equipment or systems.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
• Frequent travel to various company substations or other locations within the service territory.
• Valid driver's license.
• Available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and/or skills acquired through job experiences or education programs similar to a formal technical degree program.
• Relevant educational experience includes company-sponsored training programs or other educational programs.

Skills

• Knowledge of complex field test equipment.

Pay

Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $88,000.00/Yr. – $121,000.00/Yr.

Schedule

Requires frequent travel to various company substations or other locations within the service territory. Must be available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations (7 days per week / 24 hours per day).
