About the Role

As a Senior Engineer – Generation or a Senior Generation Equipment Specialist, you’ll be part of a dynamic team responsible for maintaining and enhancing the performance of our coal boiler systems within a combined cycle facility. This position offers a unique blend of technical challenge and hands-on project leadership, where you'll oversee complex repairs, manage contractors, and ensure compliance standards for coded pressure welding. You’ll play a critical role in keeping our power generation infrastructure safe, efficient, and reliable by planning and executing boiler tube reduction programs, coordinating inspections, and managing energy piping repairs. You’ll work cross-functionally with maintenance and operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform work on complex assignments requiring in-depth analysis to determine appropriate solutions.
  • Identify problems and solutions, making safety suggestions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Proactively identify and analyze problems, recommending solutions to customer needs with minimal guidance.
  • Solve complex problems using experience and outside references to identify new ways of applying existing procedures and resources.
  • Develop recommendations for technically sound and cost-effective solutions, demonstrating critical thinking skills.
  • Present alternatives and constructively influence customer decision-making.
  • Make higher-risk decisions involving direct application of technical knowledge, impacting multiple areas of the business.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced personnel and mentor new employees or interns.
  • Build effective working relationships and credibility with employees, contractors, customers, and peers.
  • Explain technical problems to internal stakeholders and prepare detailed documents such as technical studies and project documentation.
  • Manage project budgets, including accruals, and communicate anticipated budget changes.
  • Apply FIN 102 requirements for requisitions, receipts, and related project tasks.
  • Understand corporate financial statements and differentiate how project implementation and PUC citations impact ratepayers versus shareholders.
  • Support Generation facility outages.
  • Engage in other duties as needed to support Alliant Energy’s values and purpose.

Requirements

Sr. Engineer Generation (Boiler):

  • Bachelor's Degree within an engineering program accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission.
  • 7 years of related experience.

Senior Generation Equipment Specialist:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 10 years of experience directly related to Steam Turbine, Combustion Turbine, Boiler, Heat Recovery Steam Generator, or Generator maintenance.
  • Proven experience working with vendors and contractors to deliver goods and services in a timely and professional manner.

Skills

  • Project management leadership experience preferred.
  • Ability to deal with subcontractors and cross-functional teams.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer software programs (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).

Pay

The final salary offered will generally fall within the pay range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity, and other relevant qualifications of the applicant. This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program.
