Sr. Energy Strategy Manager, AWS Energy Team
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and are looking for talented people to help solve them.
About the role
Amazon is seeking a self-starter to join the AWS Energy team in pioneering the future of data center utility power. This individual will develop and execute the strategy for AWS to deliver energy projects and partner with electric utilities and energy companies across the Americas. The role involves defining the end-to-end power strategy (generation, transmission, distribution, backup power) for scaling and operating AWS’ diverse, low-cost energy supply. You will manage large-scale, technically complex power infrastructure projects across multiple geographies, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to explore and convert new supply opportunities into executable energy projects while reducing capital and operating expenses.
Internally, you will report status, risks, and successes to C-level and VP leadership and influence cross-functional teams in the data center capacity delivery process. Externally, you will manage utility interactions, coordinate real estate, engineering, and planning teams, and influence contracting with utilities, EPCs, and Owner’s Engineers to meet AWS’ needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong energy background, experience with regulated electric utilities, and a track record of delivering innovative energy projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive utilities strategy for AWS data centers in the Americas.
- Manage multiple utilities, EPCs, and Owner’s Engineers to deliver medium and high voltage power infrastructure, including negotiations and contracting.
- Develop and execute energy strategies leveraging capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage) to reduce long-term energy costs.
- Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
- Collaborate with Amazon’s Clean Energy and Renewable Energy teams to support strategic energy sourcing opportunities.
- Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity, reduce costs, minimize risk, and benefit Amazon.
- Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects and collaborate with internal teams and regulated utilities to meet business timelines.
- Identify and develop innovative cost-saving projects (capital and operational) related to energy infrastructure and supply.
- Complete due diligence on in-market opportunities and develop them into cost savings for the business.
- Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.
Qualifications

- 3+ years of power transaction or contracting experience in U.S. energy markets (e.g., PJM & MISO), including financial modeling, rate analysis, and negotiation of interconnection agreements.
- 2+ years of experience managing multi-million-dollar power infrastructure contracts with external stakeholders to drive projects to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree (MBA) preferred.
- Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects requiring strong communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience planning, engineering, developing, or constructing substations or other 34.5kV+ energy infrastructure.
- Experience evaluating and implementing innovative infrastructure and operational strategies in the energy sector (e.g., energy storage, demand response, fuel cells).
- Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators.
- Experience with IT infrastructure, data centers, and cloud services.
