Sr. Electrical Engineer, Data Center Engineering

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be part of a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint. You’ll design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems, justify technical decisions to senior management, and drive continuous advancements in our designs. This role offers the ability to drive change, define systems, and support a fast-paced, challenging environment with opportunities for professional growth and continuous learning.
Responsibilities
- Design data center electrical systems and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.
- Create designs that meet quality and budgetary requirements.
- Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
- Review and approve equipment submittals.
- Define project scope and provide technical support during construction phases.
- Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
- Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
- Travel to sites for reviews, audits, and startup support (up to 20% travel).
- Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Collaborate with internal teams, utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
Requirements
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Ability to take designs from concept to permit and construction document sets.
- Capability to define critical equipment specifications and approve submittals.
- Experience supporting construction from site selection through commissioning and turnover.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with diverse internal and external groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of direct data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of regional building codes and regulations.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
- Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Pay
Base salary ranges by location:
- Atlanta, GA: $136,600 – $184,800 USD annually
- Columbus, OH: $136,600 – $184,800 USD annually
- Austin, TX: $136,600 – $184,800 USD annually
- Herndon, VA: $136,600 – $184,800 USD annually
- Seattle, WA: $136,600 – $184,800 USD annually
