AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and collaborate with a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles.

About the role

Amazon Web Services is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint. You will design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems, justify technical decisions to senior management, and drive continuous advancements. This role offers the ability to define and design systems our customers rely on, with a focus on quality, speed, and cost. You will work on multi-million dollar designs, support construction from site selection to commissioning, and serve as a subject matter expert in electrical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design data center electrical systems and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.
  • Create designs that meet quality and budgetary requirements.
  • Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support during construction phases.
  • Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for reviews, audits, and startup support (up to 20% travel).
  • Collaborate with internal teams, utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions to engineering challenges.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, or oil and gas).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
  • Ability to define critical equipment specifications and approve submittals.
  • Experience taking designs from concept to permit and construction documents.
  • Capability to work within a team and support cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years of direct data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
  • Knowledge of regional building codes and regulations.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Pay

Base salary ranges (annually):

  • USA, GA (Atlanta): $136,600 – $184,800 USD
  • USA, OH (Columbus): $136,600 – $184,800 USD
  • USA, TX (Austin): $136,600 – $184,800 USD
  • USA, VA (Herndon): $136,600 – $184,800 USD
  • USA, WA (Seattle): $136,600 – $184,800 USD

Schedule

Travel up to 20% of the time for site reviews, audits, and collaboration efforts in your assigned office location.
