Sr. Director, Risk Management
About the role
The Sr. Director, Risk Management is responsible for directing and managing insurance and risk management programs to minimize and control risks and reduce losses. This includes overseeing multiple insurance programs, analyzing risks, advising stakeholders, negotiating with carriers, and ensuring timely and consistent insurance placements.
Responsibilities
- Direct and manage fiduciary, directors’ and officers’ (current & run-off), crime, cyber, professional liability, international, media, employment practices, special coverage (e.g. K&R), general commercial, automobile, property, difference in conditions, transit, workers' compensation and excess/stop loss insurance programs.
- Analyze and classify risks in terms of their frequency and potential severity; measure and determine the financial impact of risk on the company.
- Advise stakeholders on risk management issues relating to areas of coverage and other unique risks (special events, natural disasters, etc.).
- Select appropriate techniques and implement programs and policies to minimize post-loss costs, such as medical care management, risk reduction partnerships with carriers, effective internal processes for timely reporting and management of claims, grouping of exposure units, and risk transfer vehicles.
- Direct insurance negotiations, the selection of insurance brokers and carriers, and ensure the placement of insurance with same in a timely and consistent manner; keep Vice President/Controller informed of policies with significant financial impact.
- Appoint claims administrators and allocate program costs.
- Direct and oversee policy renewals, claims management and administration, issuance of certificates, budget planning, and risk minimization programs.
- Identify opportunities for the company to pursue subrogation claims and oversee efforts to recoup on subrogated matters.
- Identify opportunities to add new or different types of insurance policies to the program (e.g., captives).
- Ensure business continuity and resiliency during unexpected disruptions or crises.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Business Management, Finance, Human Resources, Law or related field. Advanced degree and/or related professional certification preferred.
- 12+ years of experience with 7+ years of people management experience.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat.
- Requires fluency in English and strong verbal and written communication skills.
