About the role
The Senior Director of Quality at Teledyne FLIR Defense is responsible for monitoring and improving the quality and reliability of all products in a $500M business unit. This includes leading a team of more than 30 people, influencing priorities, and resolving quality and regulatory issues with senior government and customer leaders. The role also involves coordinating with various departments to drive organizational improvements.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe workplace and improve safety procedures and culture
- Manage a 30-person staff including large site Quality managers and matrix-managed smaller site Quality leaders
- Implement actions to ensure compliance with additional standards such as airworthiness and environmental sustainability
- Drive continuous improvement efforts using Lean principles and root cause analysis
- Improve the New Product Introduction Process (NPI) for reliability and environmental qualifications
- Track, analyze, respond to, and report critical information including reliability, failure modes, customer satisfaction, and detailed financial metrics
- Evaluate, develop, and respond to RFP/RFQ proposals including Quality and Reliability Plans
- Travel approximately 4-6 times per year to visit locations, major customers, and trade shows
Qualifications
- College diploma in technical or business discipline
- 10+ years of experience in the Defense sector
- Experience managing multi-site Quality and/or Service organizations
- U.S. citizenship, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee, or eligibility to obtain export control licenses
Core Competencies
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Management of multi-site teams and mentorship of first-level managers
- Representation of the organization in difficult situations with senior customer and government leaders
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-810 and ISO 9001 standards and their application
- Understanding of product reliability and sparing calculations, statistical process control, or 6 Sigma principles
- Familiarity with GTC and ITAR requirements
Pay
The anticipated salary range for this role is $188,000.00 - $250,700.00, with actual compensation determined based on various factors.
