Job Summary
Provides strategic and operational leadership for the Environmental Services (EVS) Department within a large 650 bed acute care hospital. Ensures a clean, safe, and healing environment for patients, visitors, and staff while overseeing departmental operations, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for Environmental Services operations within an acute care hospital
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of 4 salaried managers and 114 hourly associates, fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and operational excellence
- Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets, financial performance, and productivity metrics
- Collaborate with hospital leadership and department managers to support organizational priorities and service excellence
- Coordinate EVS activities with clinical and non-clinical departments to ensure seamless hospital operations
- Plan, organize, direct, and oversee all departmental functions, workflows, staffing, and performance standards
- Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and best practices
- Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, infection prevention, and accreditation standards
- Lead quality improvement initiatives and support organizational performance objectives
- Analyze operational and financial data to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and outcomes
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain a high-performing management and frontline team
- Maintain current and accurate job descriptions and performance expectations for department staff
- Promote professional development and encourage participation in training and educational programs
- Build strong relationships with hospital administration and key stakeholders through proactive communication and partnership
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Six years of progressive environmental Services or housekeeping management experience in a large hospital or healthcare environment
- Proven experience leading large teams in a complex healthcare setting
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze budgets, productivity metrics, and operational performance data
- Demonstrated success managing departmental budgets and driving operational improvements
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development skills
- Exceptional customer service orientation with a commitment to quality and patient experience
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
- Able to effectively prioritize multiple initiatives and achieve results in a fast-paced environment
- Experience utilizing a collaborative and inclusive leadership style to engage and motivate teams
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management capabilities
- Able to work effectively under pressure while maintaining focus on strategic goals and operational priorities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
