Sr Development Director
About the role
Joining the CleanGen Development team as a Senior Development Director is an opportunity to be an important senior member of a lean but fast-growing team that is working on a strategic and highly visible new business venture within a well-funded corporation. We are looking for a talented and energetic individual to lead multiple utility-scale gas-fired development projects across the US.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and directly manage the development team to advance existing CleanGen projects from early-, mid-, and/or late-stage development to construction-ready status according to, and with accountability for, budget and schedule.
- Participate in setting and implementing strategy to identify new development prospects and opportunities (greenfield sites and/or acquisition targets), including conducting market assessments, fatal flaw analyses, in-person site reconnaissance, and negotiating asset purchase and/or joint development agreements.
- Originating and managing power off-take arrangements and natural gas interconnection and transport.
- Share natural gas-fired project development knowledge/experience throughout the CleanGen development team (and broader Bechtel organization).
- Interface with Bechtel senior management to discuss progress of CleanGen buildout, key project milestones, and financial requirements to continue to advance the CleanGen vision.
- Put in place management tools, processes, and procedures required to operate and expand a nationwide renewable energy development portfolio.
- Work collaboratively with internal power marketing team, financial modeling team, and engineering/procurement/construction team.
- As they arise, support international natural gas-fired opportunities.
Requirements
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent), preferably in technical/engineering or business/finance related field, and 15+ years of relevant experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience.
- Required Knowledge and Skills:
- 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in utility-scale to include gas-fired project development.
- Experience directly managing and growing a power/energy project development team.
- Experience interfacing directly with senior management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience identifying and securing new prospects and opportunities (e.g., greenfield sites and acquisitions).
- Willingness to travel as necessary.
- Experience working directly with project engineering and EPC teams.
- Experience in multiple U.S. markets such as ERCOT, MISO, PJM, and SPP.
- Master’s Degree or MBA is preferred.
