We are a real estate development firm seeking a hands-on Senior Development Accountant to oversee accounting for active ground-up multifamily development projects.
About the role
This position focuses heavily on construction loan draws, job cost accounting, development budgets, and AP oversight. This is not primarily a property accounting role; candidates should have direct development/construction accounting experience, particularly with loan draws and job costing.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit monthly construction loan draws, including sworn statements, lien waivers, title updates, and supporting schedules
- Coordinate with lenders, title companies, construction consultants, and project teams to resolve draw issues
- Manage job cost accounting and development budgets, including budget-to-actual analysis, change orders, and contingency tracking
- Identify cost overruns, funding gaps, and upcoming cash requirements
- Oversee the Accounts Payable function, including invoice coding, three-way matching, and vendor payments
- Supervise and review AP staff and maintain AP controls and approval workflows
- Prepare project-level financial statements, cash flow projections, and funding reports
- Reconcile construction loans, retainage, equity, and debt funding to the general ledger
- Partner with project managers, construction managers, and ownership on project funding and draw schedules
Requirements
- 5+ years of real estate development/construction accounting
- Direct experience preparing construction loan draws
- Strong job cost accounting and development budget experience
- Experience with ground-up multifamily or mixed-use development
- Knowledge of sworn statements, lien waivers, retainage, change orders, and hard/soft costs
- AP supervision or management experience
- Strong Excel skills
- Yardi, MRI, Procore, Sage, or similar systems preferred
