The Senior Design Engineer leads due diligence investigations, design, and engineering analyses for water and wastewater utilities to support retail, commercial, industrial, and residential site projects. This role involves working with Fortune 500 companies, local and regional developers, and navigating varying project complexities.

Responsibilities

  • Review municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations to determine land development limitations for properties.
  • Prepare Site Investigation and Due Diligence Reports, including ordinance reviews, utility service research, agency regulations, and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines.
  • Prepare Conceptual Utility Plans and design Utility Systems Design Plans.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, and project teams to prepare comprehensive site plan applications.
  • Perform calculations related to pumping systems and hydraulics for water and wastewater facilities.
  • Prepare technical reports, including water and sanitary sewer reports.
  • Prepare written correspondence to outside agencies, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 4+ years’ experience in Civil Utilities Engineering.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain and operate a personal and/or company vehicle.

Skills

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD for site plan drawings.
  • Knowledge of planning and zoning processes.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic and stormwater design programs (e.g., Hydraflow, StormCAD, Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA)).
  • Design and drafting capabilities, including grading and drainage design.
  • Utility design experience, including water main extensions, gravity sewer conveyance systems, pump stations, and force mains.
  • Experience dealing with regulatory agencies and review professionals.
  • Proficiency in mapping websites for due diligence and site investigations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project), and Bluebeam Revu and/or Adobe for design document markups.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Independent and critical thinking abilities.
  • Superior organizational and delegation skills.
  • Ability to work and lead in a team-oriented environment.
  • Client management experience.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $90,000–$112,000. Starting compensation will be determined based on an individual's qualifications, experience, skills, and other job-related factors.
