About the role
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Honors Opportunities, the Sr. Department Assistant supports multiple Assistant Deans and other staff members as assigned, and ensures the smooth daily operations of the Gabelli School of Business’s Rose Hill undergraduate division. This role handles high volumes of student, faculty, and administrative traffic—especially during peak academic periods—and requires strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Manage general reception duties: greet students, visitors, and parents; provide information and referrals; answer phones and emails; take messages; order supplies; and coordinate communications.
- Support Assistant Deans using Fordham’s Salesforce (Ram Central), student record database (OnBase), and course scheduling system (Banner) for student appointments, walk-ins, sign-ins, notes, registration, and record-keeping during high-volume periods (registration, withdrawal, add/drop).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advisor schedules, preferred response methods, and accurate information dissemination to students and parents.
- Manage student electronic records, including scanning, uploading/downloading, processing, filing, and ensuring proper reflection in student records.
- Lead or support event planning for undergraduate events such as open house, orientation, spring preview, admitted student days, town halls, dean’s list, graduation, awards ceremonies, advising sessions, case competitions, and other large-scale events.
- Assist with time-sensitive student notifications and inter-office outreach during emerging Dean’s Office situations requiring problem-solving.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of clerical office support experience.
Skills
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- High level of confidentiality and discretion.
- Comfortable learning new software platforms and databases.
- Mandatory competency testing required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience with Salesforce.
Pay
Biweekly salary: $2,200.29.
Schedule
- 35 hours per week.
