Sr. Data Scientist
Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of advanced analytics techniques, including machine learning, statistical modeling, and data mining, to generate insights from structured and unstructured datasets.
Design, build, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines, including ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and API-based data ingestion workflows, ensuring scalability and compliance with security protocols.
Guide the governance and validation of analytic models, implementing best practices in model reproducibility and performance evaluation.
Communicate complex analytic findings to both technical and non-technical audiences through concise, clear visualizations, reports, and presentations.
Collaborate with NSWC Crane stakeholders to understand mission needs, translate them into analytical questions, and deliver high-impact solutions.
Produce high-quality technical documentation, analytic products, and executive summaries for review by government stakeholders.
Qualifications
- BS 12-15, MS 10-13, PhD 10+ in a relevant field such as Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline (per eCRAFT Data Scientist III labor category).
- Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a TS clearance.
- 10+ years of professional experience in data science or advanced analytics.
- Proven ability to apply data mining, statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization techniques to large datasets.
- Strong proficiency in Python, R, and associated data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, TensorFlow, PyTorch) as well as SQL/NoSQL tools and workflows.
- Experience with designing and maintaining data pipelines, ETL processes, and reproducible model validation frameworks.
- Demonstrated understanding of statistical methods, mathematical reasoning, and model performance evaluation.
- Familiarity with enterprise data platforms, cloud-based analytics, and operational data systems in government/DoD settings.
- Experience with operations research methodologies or conducting mission-related analytical trade studies.
- Strong communication and storytelling skills to effectively deliver insights to diverse audiences, including technical teams, leadership, and government stakeholders.
- Experience working within DoD/Navy environments and with strict security and data-governance constraints.
Preferred Skills And Experience
- Familiarity with DoD/Navy mission-related analytics in areas such as electronic warfare (EW), tactical operations, or advanced systems assessments.
- Experience building operational dashboards, conducting trade studies, or implementing mission-focused data analytics solutions.
- Proficiency in modern visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, ggplot).
- Knowledge of secure data-handling practices and compliance requirements in DoD environments (e.g., RMF guidelines).
