Sr. Cost Accountant

Responsibilities

• Create detailed costing models that capture material usage, labor inputs, overhead, and manufacturing activity for each product line.
• Evaluate product profitability and gross margin performance to highlight trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Partner with production, inventory, and operations teams to identify key cost drivers and validate assumptions used in financial analysis.
• Review shop floor processes and document workflow steps to improve the accuracy of product cost calculations.
• Prepare Excel-based analytical tools and reporting models that support decision-making related to pricing and margins.
• Extract, organize, and interpret data from Sage Intacct to support findings and recommendations.
• Present clear, actionable insights to leadership regarding cost structure, product performance, and potential margin enhancement opportunities.
• Support the engagement by developing practical recommendations that strengthen costing visibility across the business.

Requirements

• Proven experience in manufacturing cost accounting, including work in complex production environments.
• Strong background in product costing, standard cost accounting, cost analysis, and overhead allocation methods.
• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to build robust financial models and perform detailed data analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to assess gross margins and translate financial findings into pricing recommendations.
• Comfortable working cross-functionally with finance, operations, production, and inventory stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain analytical conclusions clearly to varied audiences.
• Experience using Sage Intacct is preferred.

Qualifications

Availability to work primarily onsite in Huntsville, Alabama during the project term.
