Sr. Cost Accountant

Responsibilities

• Direct cost accounting activities across manufacturing and distribution operations, ensuring accurate product costing and timely financial insight.
• Evaluate standard costs and investigate manufacturing variances to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities to improve margin performance.
• Oversee inventory accounting processes, including valuation, reconciliations, and controls that support accurate stock reporting.
• Prepare and analyze financial results for multiple entities or business segments, translating data into actionable guidance for leadership.
• Partner with operational teams to monitor productivity, track performance drivers, and strengthen financial decision-making.
• Lead billing-related and transactional accounting workflows, providing direction to staff and promoting consistent execution.
• Recommend and implement process enhancements that improve reporting accuracy, efficiency, and control effectiveness.
• Support system-related or operational process changes as needed, ensuring financial impacts are assessed and properly managed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in cost accounting, inventory accounting, or operational finance, preferably within manufacturing environments.
• Strong working knowledge of standard costing methods, cost analysis, and variance reporting.
• Experience managing inventory controls and valuation in a complex operating environment.
• Able to support more than one business unit, entity, or profit center with clear financial analysis.
• Previous experience leading, supervising, or coordinating accounting team activities.
• Background in manufacturing and distribution settings is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with Oracle or comparable ERP platforms is preferred, and exposure to unionized operations is a plus.
