Sr. Cost Accountant

Responsibilities

  • Review manufacturing cost data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improved financial performance.
  • Maintain and update standard costs to reflect current production processes, materials, and labor inputs.
  • Analyze inventory, production, and overhead information to ensure accurate cost reporting and valuation.
  • Partner with plant and finance teams to explain cost results and support operational decision-making.
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports related to cost analysis, margin performance, and manufacturing expenses.
  • Reconcile cost-related accounts and investigate discrepancies to improve accuracy in financial records.
  • Support system-based costing activities, including work connected to Dynamics AX, as needed.
  • Contribute to month-end and period-end close processes by delivering timely cost accounting analysis.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in cost accounting, with a strong background in manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in standard costing methods and cost analysis practices.
  • Hands-on experience working with manufacturing cost structures, inventory, and production reporting.
  • Proficiency with Dynamics AX or comparable ERP systems used for cost accounting functions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret detailed financial and operational data.
  • Solid understanding of account reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reporting processes.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA certification preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of SAP or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
