About the role
We are looking for an experienced Cost Accountant to join a manufacturing organization in Archbold, Ohio on a Contract basis. This on-site role will provide critical financial support for plant operations by overseeing cost accounting activities, evaluating production-related results, and delivering reporting that helps leaders make informed decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong manufacturing accounting expertise, can adapt quickly in a fast-moving environment, and is comfortable working independently while collaborating with operational stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily cost accounting activities to ensure accurate product costing and reliable financial data within a manufacturing setting.
- Review standard costs regularly and evaluate changes in production inputs, inventory movement, and overall manufacturing performance.
- Investigate cost variances by analyzing labor, material, and overhead trends, then communicate findings to finance and operations leaders.
- Contribute to month-end close by preparing inventory and cost-related entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Produce recurring financial and operational reports that summarize plant performance, inventory results, and cost drivers.
- Work closely with plant and operations management to provide insight into financial results and support better business decisions.
- Build presentation materials and reporting packages in PowerPoint for leadership review and management discussions.
- Assist with special analyses, urgent reporting needs, and transition-related knowledge capture to help maintain continuity during the contract assignment.
- Leverage ERP data, including Epicor when applicable, to improve reporting efficiency and shorten ramp-up time in the role.
Requirements
- Prior experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment is required.
- Strong knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, product costing, and variance analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret production-related financial data and translate it into actionable business insight.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and financial reporting tools.
- Experience preparing management presentations and reporting deliverables in PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Epicor ERP is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently, learn quickly, and contribute immediately in an on-site contract assignment.
- Clear communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with finance, operations, and plant leadership.
