About the Role

The Construction Manager (CM) is engaged from project initiation through final commissioning and closeout. Project scopes vary, so the CM’s role adapts accordingly. Depending on experience, this position may be classified as a Construction Manager I or II.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Construction Group in managing capital projects through the entire life cycle—from definition to closeout.
• Participate as a project-team member to develop scope, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Conduct site field and scope visits.
• Assist in developing project schedules, including critical paths.
• Create detailed construction plans and identify outage requirements for new facilities.
• Identify required permits.
• Develop detailed construction estimates.
• Coordinate with the Utility Company’s major accounts group regarding outages that affect external or internal customers.
• Develop construction contract bid packages; review responses and participate in vendor selection.
• Prepare bid packages and RFPs; conduct pre-bid contractor meetings.
• Participate in design constructability reviews (site, foundation, electrical & relay, T-Line) to eliminate costly construction-phase expenses.
• Develop a detailed construction plan that includes outage lists, exact work dates, and resource requirements.
• Identify and address all project safety hazards and environmental concerns.
• Monitor and report on project construction schedule and cost.
• Perform quality-assurance checks during construction.
• Monitor schedule and progress against the requested in-service date.
• Oversee closeout of construction contracts and as-built documentation.
• Ensure compliance with all Utility Company procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Provide Construction Management oversight to contractors constructing and commissioning Transmission Substations and Transmission Lines across the Utility Company system.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent.
• Ten or more years of experience in Electric Utility Transmission & Distribution, Construction, Manufacturing, or similar industries.
• Superior interpersonal, leadership, communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office suite, especially MS Word and MS Excel.

Working Conditions

• Primarily office-based (private or semi-private office) with occasional travel to off-site locations.
• Field duties require outdoor work in plant or construction environments.
• Interaction with team members, supervisors, and client personnel.
• Exposure to production machinery with extreme noise levels; must wear required safety equipment.
• May involve multiple job sites in a day; must tolerate climate changes.
• Periodic out-of-town travel may be required.
