About the Role
The Senior Compensation Specialist supports specific groups with compensation administration and implementation for UMass Chan's various compensation programs. This includes areas related to compensation requirements such as position redesign, job descriptions and evaluations, FLSA testing, salary administration, and conducting compensation analyses. The role assists in implementing compensation programs and translating strategy into results while ensuring compliance with relevant federal and state wage and salary laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and recommend job evaluations, salary administration, and other UMass Chan compensation programs.
- Perform analytical studies in compensation areas, including internal and external equity, competitive pay practices, incentive compensation, and emerging trends.
- Review and recommend approval of compensation actions such as promotions, above-guideline job offers, and off-cycle pay increases.
- Collaborate with the team to review job descriptions (education & experience, skill sets), job classifications, internal equity, market data, and salary bands.
- Analyze compensation and employee data to assist managers in meeting organizational needs.
- Educate and train managers on conducting market analysis for new and existing roles and the importance of MEPA for compliance.
- Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team to support offers and ensure pay equity.
- Run data reports for preparing compensation metrics.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Management, or a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 5-7 years of experience with compensation programs and/or analysis work.
- Knowledge of federal and state wage and salary laws and regulations.
- Experience with databases for accessing compensation information and associated job descriptions.
- Strong ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
Skills
- Strong technical skills (MS Office – Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, and PowerPoint).
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to present effectively to leadership, stakeholders, and peers.
