About the role

The Senior Clinical Veterinarian is a key leadership role within the Laboratory Animal Medicine program, providing advanced veterinary oversight, clinical expertise, and program management in collaboration with the Attending Veterinarian. This position serves as a mentor and manager for a team of veterinarians, ensuring high standards of animal welfare, veterinary care, regulatory compliance, and scientific collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage, mentor, and support a team of 5–6 veterinarians.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching, and professional development planning.

  • Oversee daily scheduling, workload distribution, and coverage to ensure veterinary support across all programs.

  • Promote a culture of collaboration, compliance, and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate closely with veterinary technicians, supporting their professional growth and ensuring alignment between veterinarians and technical staff.

  • Foster a culture of inclusiveness, teamwork, and respect within the veterinary group, encouraging collaboration, mentoring, and knowledge sharing across all levels of staff.

  • Promote a supportive and nurturing environment where veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and technical staff feel engaged, valued, and empowered to contribute to program success.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an AVMA-accredited institution.

  • Active veterinary license in at least one U.S. state; ability to obtain Texas licensure within 6 months of hire.

  • American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) board certification strongly preferred; board-eligible candidates will be considered.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing veterinary teams.

  • Strong working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (USDA, OLAW, AAALAC, CDC).

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to balance clinical responsibilities with staff development and administrative oversight.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in laboratory animal medicine.

  • Working conditions include exposure to laboratory animals, allergens, and research environments.

  • Physical requirements may involve occasional lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
