Job Summary
Key Responsibilities
Site Analysis & Planning:
- Conduct site feasibility studies, surveys, zoning research, and make preliminary layout recommendations.
Design & Engineering:
- Grading, earthwork cut/fill volumes, stormwater conveyance, and detention/retention systems.
- Utility layouts: water distribution, sanitary sewers, storm systems, septic systems, and site paving.
- Hydraulic modeling (e.g. Rational Method, Manning's Equation) for drainage systems.
Regulatory & Permitting:
- Interpret and comply with municipal/state/federal codes; prepare, submit, and track permit applications.
Documentation:
- Prepare and review construction drawings, technical specifications, grading/stormwater reports, cost estimates, and feasibility studies.
Client & Multi-Stakeholder Coordination:
- Act as liaison among developers, architects, city officials, surveyors, utility providers, and subconsultants.
Site Visits & Construction Support:
- Monitor construction activity, inspect installations, resolve field design issues, coordinate submittals and review as-built.
Project Management:
- Track schedule, budget, and resource allocation, mentor junior staff, support quality control and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (ABET-accredited).
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
- 10+ years of experience in land development or civil/site engineering, depending on level.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D (or MicroStation) and hydraulic modeling software.
- Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Desired Attributes & Certifications
- Familiarity with local land-development codes, floodplain/stormwater regulations, and permit processes.
- Educational and/or Municipal Project Experience is Highly Preferred.
- Certifications like Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD), municipal/County-specific credentials can be advantageous.
- Experience in a broad range of civil domains (traffic, geotech, environmental, grading), as land development often spans all civil engineering corners.
